Born in 1962 and graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.  In all, Takashi Murakami received eleven years of Japanese traditional art education; therefore, his works range widely from manga, clothes and accessories, to fashion design products.
Takashi Murakami is currently one of the most promising artists in modern art field.  He is able to inspect Japanese art in overall, finding common features among genres and cartoon creations, and then put them into modern art.
In 2000, Murakami’s exhibition “Superflat” successfully put Japanese culture forward onto international stage, from Los Angeles to Minneapolis, to Seattle.  What’s more, he makes Japanese pop culture and subculture into the row of so-called high art.  Murakami not only pays much attention to this issue, but also explores the borderline between popular art and pure art, as well as looking for a new fusion of art and business.
