LIN CHIH-CHU林之助
TAICHUNG, TAIWAN1917-2008
Lin Chih-Chu was born to a prosperous family in Daya, Taichung.  He went to Japan studying elementary school, and then enrolling in Teikoku Art School in Musashino learning Japanese painting for five years.  After graduation, Lin started learning under Kodama Kibon (1898-1971).  Kibon’s drawing is delicate both in techniques and coloring.  He is especially good at painting flowers, birds, and animals in natural environment; furthermore, a delight, bright effect on canvas and seasonal atmosphere are the key focus to Kibon.  As a result, Lin Chih-Chu pursued a style passed on by his master.  When Lin came back to Taiwan after the WWII, his painting content gradually simplified life experience, and has won special award twice in Governor’s Art Exhibition.  At that time, Lin was the host of Taiwan Glue Painting Association, taking charge of its activities.  He held regular exhibitions every year, and lectured in the Department of Fine Arts, Tunghai University, training many glue painters of new generation.
Lin’s painting style is of elegance and delicacy.  He uses accustomed mineral material for coloring to generate a rich and bright expression.  The sensitive drawing technique has made flowers and birds vividly emerge in front of the viewer.
