Wang was born in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province in 1961.  He graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Oil Painting in 1986, now is the Director of Lu Xun Museum and university director of Dalian campus, and he’s also a researcher of China Art Research Center.  A fever of abstract painting has been rising since the 80s in China and Wang is one of the artist who first began with this art category.  His art is a result of obsessive attitude toward arts and a concentration of his determination.  The strength of his characteristic becomes a full composition and visual density in his painting; that’s the reason why his works tend to have personal appearance and create a surprising result touching viewer’s hearts.  “Wang Yi-Gang’s work in 90s was not only a representation of an individual, but an important illustration of contemporary Chinese art in that era.” Said Fan An-Di, the Director of China Fine Art Museum.
