From Long Xi, Fujian and born in a prestigious family.  At the age of 5 and 6, his father invited a painting master to paint Chen and his father which triggered his interest in painting.  He creates calligraphy mainly and held his first solo exhibition in 1969.  His pieces won first place in: 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969 in the Province’s Faculty Art Exhibition Painting Division, 1965-1967 first place in the Province Art Exhibition Chinese Painting Division, 1968.  In 1982 after joining the kiln he actively invested his time into painting porcelain.  He held his first solo exhibition in for porcelain in 1983 and his passion and determination was recognized within the country.  Chen Shan-Hsi’s main topic of style when painting porcelain is was vast compared with his calligraphy paintings.  It includes Oriental and Western traditional pottery design, folk demeanor, contemporary and modernism painting styles, etc.  He especially likes folk paintings, with free words and side narrations, filled with childhood voices, humor and abundant images, full of humors which have made his pieces quite popular.
