Hiroyuki Matsuura was born in 1964 in Tokyo.  He started to work as a graphic designer in 1984, designing advertising, packaging, binding, and logo.  From 1999, he started to use “character illustration” as themes to create “Poster + Package + Skateboard” design. Later, the honor of receiving “Scout Prize” at Takashi Murakami’s “GEIJUTSU-DOUJOU/GP at MOT” (2001) made Matsuura enter contemporary fine art world.  In Taiwan, Matsuura has lots of fans; and therefore price surge of his artworks is obvious.  Through animation subject matter, Matsuura’s characters bring back many art lovers’ childhood memory.  Moreover, behind that bright, vivid usage of colors, there remains his solid painting skill.  In a sense, Hiroyuki Matsuura has become one of the hottest Japanese artists in current art market.
