Chen Cheng-Hsiung was born in Tainan, Taiwan in 1942.  He started woodcarving career as an apprentice at the age of 14, and then went for an intern tour around Taiwan’s local temples.  Afterwards, he concentrates on pure art creation which won him some awards, including Wu Sanlian Award, Great Effort Award of the Sinkouzou Exhibition.  In 2003, Chen participated in Korean International Art Fair, and next year held a solo exhibition in Taichung.  Currently, Chen Cheng-Hsiung’s works are collected by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and Taipei Fine Arts Museum.

Chen Cheng-Hsiung’s cutting and design has his own style which combines Tang-Shan master, Taiwanese Buddha sculpture, Japanese famous sculpture, and Western realism sculpture.  Every piece of his work is very much alike people around us. With proficient skill, Chen cuts out Taiwanese people’s nostalgic memory.
