LÉONARD TSUGUHARU FOUJITA (TSUGUHARU FOUJITA)藤田嗣治

Fujita is a Japanese French artist; born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from the Art Institute of Tokyo.  From 1911, Fujita started to travel overseas, first arriving in Korea then China.  In 1912, he went to London and ever since then, except for the period during World War II; he started to reside in Paris.  As an Oriental person, Fujita quickly immersed himself into Chagall, Sting, Modigliani, etc. artists and started building his own reputation.  During the preliminary self-discovery period, Fujita attempted to create European style paintings and around 1925, he applied French oil painting techniques into Japanese style paintings as a style of presentation.  Fujita’s most seen topics of art like landscape, animals and self portraits; colors and lines are normally possessed with Oriental meanings of delicacy and exquisiteness.
